If you are considering adoption, you’ll be happy to know that there are several adoption plans available to you. Each one is designed to help your baby easily transition from your loving arms to those of the loving adoptive family they will be welcomed into.

No two adoption plans are alike, just as no birth parents, children or adoptive parents are alike. Some of the available adoption plans include Open Adoption, Confidential Adoption and Semi-Open Adoption.

This plan allows you to select, meet and get to know your chosen adoptive couple before placement. This personal interaction will allow you peace of mind when entrusting your baby to their care, as well as the option to continue to be a part of your child’s life should you decide to do so. You’ll decide how much contact you would like with your child and it will be included in your adoption plan.

Confidential adoptions are private. The adoptive parents in this plan usually have no contact with the birth mother before or after the child’s birth. This is a less common choice for most mothers today than in previous generations, but still a viable option should the birth mother seek complete confidentiality.

Semi-open adoptions are neither Open nor Confidential, but fall somewhere in the middle. In Semi-open adoptions, some information is usually exchanged, such as first names, but none that would identify a birth mother. Correspondence may also take place between adoptive parents and the birth mother, but a third party is usually brought in to mediate.

You may continue to pursue your degree, goals or plans.
You can live independently.
You will have time to prepare for future parenthood.
You will have the freedom to choose if you want to have a long-term relationship with the baby’s father.
You can feel at peace about your decision.
Should you choose, you can still continue to have contact with your child.
You have the length of the pregnancy to plan for your future and your child’s future.
